Aneel Keeps June Electricity Flag at Yellow

The decision reflects reduced hydropower output and greater use of costlier thermal plants, which will slightly raise household bills.

Aneel confirmed Friday that the tariff flag for June will remain yellow, adding R$1.88 for every 100 kWh consumed.
The agency said a drier‑than‑normal period has cut reservoir inflows and forced more thermoelectric generation, which raises system operating costs.
The surcharge applies to all captive distribution consumers except those in isolated systems and is charged automatically on bills.
Using the national average residential use of 187 kWh, the yellow flag would add about R$3.52 to a typical household bill this month.
The flag system, created in 2015, sets fixed per‑flag rates (yellow R$18.85/MWh, red 1 R$44.63/MWh, red 2 R$78.77/MWh) and is reassessed monthly by grid operators so further changes will depend on rainfall and reservoir inflows.
