Android Canary Adds AirDrop-Enabling Files to Pixel 9 Firmware

Canary-only components point to a phased switch-on limited to higher-end Pixel 9 phones.

Overview

  • Build ZP11.251212.007 contains the same system files that power Quick Share–AirDrop interoperability on Pixel 10.
  • Files appear for Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold, with no files present for the Pixel 9a or older Pixel models.
  • The functionality is not yet active on Pixel 9 devices and would require Google to enable it, with reporters pointing to Android 16 QPR3 or Android 17 as likely targets.
  • Google launched cross-sharing between Android and Apple devices as a Pixel 10 exclusive in late 2025, and expansion now looks staged by model.
  • Coverage notes Qualcomm is working to extend support to Snapdragon phones, and iPhone users will need iOS 26 or newer for compatibility.
