Android 17 Expands Android Switch to Migrate iMessage, Homescreen and More

Rollout begins on a small set of Pixel phones with broader device, carrier and developer support planned.

Overview

Google upgraded Android Switch in Android 17 to transfer many more data types when moving from iPhone to Android.
The tool can move messages including SMS, MMS, RCS and iMessage history with media and stickers preserved.
Homescreen items such as wallpaper and app layout now transfer, and passwords, passkeys, Wi‑Fi credentials, files, calendar and note attachments are included.
Transfers can run wirelessly over Wi‑Fi and rely on native iOS and Android tools, but eSIM moves and some in‑app data require carrier approval or developer opt‑in.
The initial, phased rollout targets a small percentage of Pixel devices and aims to lower the friction of switching ecosystems while broader OEM, carrier and app support rolls out in the coming weeks and months.
