Android 17 Adds Built-In Wireless Tool to Move iPhone Data

Required by EU rules, the update lets Android import accounts, passwords, Wi‑Fi credentials and eSIMs during setup from iPhones running iOS 26.3 or later.

Overview

  • Google has built a native wireless migration experience into Android 17 that expands what can be transferred from an iPhone without using a separate app.
  • The new tool moves Google Accounts, saved passwords, Wi‑Fi credentials, photos, videos, contacts, messages, calendars and eSIMs during device setup.
  • Transfers require the iPhone to be updated to iOS 26.3 or later so both devices can communicate and complete the wireless migration.
  • Google says the feature began rolling out to select Pixel phones and the company confirmed the same method will be available on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip8 and Z Fold8.
  • The change follows the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which forces app-less on-device portability and simpler eSIM transfers and is likely to lower switching friction for consumers and increase pressure on platform lock-in.
