Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 Rolls Out to Pixel Phones and Tablet

Overview

  • Google is distributing the Beta 1 build today with the August 2025 security patch, available via OTA enrollment or manual installs using factory images and OTA files.
  • Support spans Pixel 6 through Pixel 9 series devices, including Fold models, the 6a/7a/8a/9a, and the Pixel Tablet.
  • User-facing changes include an expanded dark theme, auto-themed app icons, smoother Android migrations, and built-in PDF annotation and editing.
  • Media and system updates add IAMF decoding, new AAudio APIs, Personal Audio Sharing in the output switcher, and a combined HDR/SDR brightness slider, alongside connectivity and privacy upgrades such as Companion Device Management enhancements, MediaRouter network privacy, Secure Lock Device, and a Phone Theft Protection toggle.
  • Developer-focused additions include widget engagement metrics, early warnings for 16KB page-size compatibility, enhanced profiling, more robust multi-display testing, and a stated platform stability milestone ahead of an expected December stable release.
