Overview
- Mirra Andreeva beat Eva Lys 6-0, 6-2 in a 63-minute match on Thursday, eliminating Lys from the US Open in straight sets.
- Andreeva, the reigning French Open champion and a top-five player, dominated the opening set in about 20 minutes and closed out the match after Lys briefly led 2-0 in the second set.
- Lys’s loss means no German woman reached the tournament’s third round and leaves Alexander Zverev as the only remaining German in the draw.
- The defeat compounds a difficult, injury-affected season for Lys and increases the likelihood she will fall out of the WTA top 100, which could force her to play Grand Slam qualifying in future events.
- Beyond the scoreline, the result underscores Andreeva’s rise toward the elite tier and leaves Lys facing immediate questions about recovery, form, and where she will need to rebuild ranking points in coming tournaments.
