Andhra Pradesh to Seek 2,000 Hectares of Forest Land for Srisailam Temple Upgrade

The proposal will be taken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his October 16 visit for discussion.

Overview

  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed the Endowments Department to draft a comprehensive master plan to develop Srisailam on par with Tirumala.
  • The state will formally request the Union Forest Ministry to allocate 2,000 hectares of forest land to expand parking, accommodation, and other facilities.
  • Connectivity upgrades are planned by linking the temple town to nearby national highways at Dornala, Sunnipenta (Sundipenta), and Eegalapenta.
  • The Forest Department was told to prepare a tiger-conservation action plan for the Srisailam Tiger Reserve to ensure development protects the ecosystem.
  • Rising pilgrim inflows are driving the push, with officials studying models such as Sabarimala, and the plan still requires central approval and environmental clearances.
