Andhra Pradesh to Launch ₹15,000-a-Year Support for Auto, Cab Drivers on Oct. 4

An Assembly presentation cast the rollout as proof of a welfare-first 'double engine' agenda.

Overview

  • The Auto Drivers' Sevalo scheme will provide ₹15,000 annually to each eligible auto and cab driver who owns a vehicle, covering about 2.9 lakh beneficiaries at an estimated yearly cost of ₹435 crore.
  • Under the NTR Bharosa pensions, about 63.5 lakh people are receiving monthly support, 59% of them women, with spending of roughly ₹2,745 crore per month and ₹32,143 crore per year.
  • The Stree Shakti free bus travel programme has enabled 8.86 crore rides for women to date and carries an annual cost of about ₹2,963 crore, which the government says has boosted APSRTC occupancy.
  • The Thalliki Vandanam programme covers around 66.5 lakh students, offers ₹15,000 per year to eligible schoolchildren, and has spent approximately ₹10,091 crore so far with a pledge to include those who missed out.
  • A Universal Health Policy was announced to cover 1.63 crore poor families with free treatment benefits up to ₹25 lakh.
