Andhra Pradesh to Induct 750 Electric Buses as APSRTC Issues LoA

A procurement award clears the way for service to begin soon under a CESL-led rollout backed by the Union government.

Overview

  • The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs allotted 750 electric buses to the state under the PM e-Bus Sewa programme.
  • APSRTC said it has issued a Letter of Award to the selected operator, moving the project from tendering to deployment.
  • Officials stated that operations are expected to commence shortly across Andhra Pradesh.
  • Nationwide, 14,028 electric buses have been sanctioned under PM E-DRIVE, with CESL having concluded a mega tender for 10,900 vehicles.
  • CESL estimates the transition could cut more than four million tonnes of CO2, and CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit says the initiative advances modern public transport and India’s 2070 net-zero target.
