Overview
- Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced on Tuesday that the state has identified 22 sites for new Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme centres, raising the PMNDP total in Andhra Pradesh to 83.
- Each new centre is planned to house five dialysis machines at an estimated capital cost of ₹85 lakh and to deliver about 15 sessions a day, with the state estimating around ₹11 crore in annual running costs for the additions.
- The government says it spends ₹999 per dialysis session at these centres compared with ₹3,000–₹4,000 charged by private hospitals, and that state free-dialysis spending rose to ₹197.8 crore in 2025–26 with ₹90.09 crore delivered so far in 2026–27.
- Officials have been directed to make the centres operational quickly, but practical steps such as machine procurement, hiring staff, arranging public–private partnerships and resolving earlier court-related delays remain next and could affect timelines.
- The move builds on the national PMNDP programme launched under the National Health Mission in 2016–17 and targets a large unmet need: India records roughly 2.2 lakh new end-stage renal disease cases each year and demand for dialysis runs into tens of millions of sessions annually.
