Andhra Pradesh Submits ₹4,526 Crore Interim Damage Estimate After Two Cyclones

The estimate seeks central funding for recovery from widespread crop and power losses.

Overview

  • The state government has sent an interim report to the Centre putting combined damage from cyclones Arnab and Murasu at ₹4,526 crore while it prepares a more detailed, comprehensive assessment.
  • Officials say Arnab damaged 352,000 hectares of agricultural crops and 23,211 hectares of horticulture, and Murasu later harmed standing crops across more than 30,000 hectares in 15 districts.
  • Power infrastructure suffered extensive harm with about 31,000 uprooted poles, outages in 4,095 villages and 548 affected substations, but coordinated crews and help from neighbouring states restored most supply within four to five days.
  • Authorities evacuated roughly 10,805 people, opened 171 relief camps, deployed 11 NDRF and 13 SDRF teams, distributed food and medical aid, and moved thousands of pregnant women to hospitals during relief operations.
  • The government credited its RTGS and AWARE forecasting systems with near-90% accuracy against ground observations, saying those forecasts guided prepositioning of teams and equipment and will inform the final damage and relief plan.
