Andhra Pradesh Sets Up SIT to Probe Spurious Liquor Cases in Mulakalacheruvu and Bhavanipuram

The four-member team led by Eluru Range IGP G. V. G. Ashok Kumar has been vested with police powers under the BNSS to investigate offences under the AP Excise Act.

Overview

  • The state issued G.O. Rt. No. 1872 on October 13 constituting a Special Investigation Team to handle the probes registered as FIR No. 98/2025 and FIR No. 171/2025.
  • Members include Rahul Dev Sharma, Director of Enforcement (Prohibition & Excise), K. Chakravarthi, SP–III (CID), and Mallika Garg, SP, Technical Services.
  • The mandate covers the illegal manufacture, supply, and distribution of spurious liquor as well as connected offences referred by the government or competent authorities.
  • The SIT will function under the supervision of the Prohibition & Excise Commissioner in Vijayawada and may co‑opt experienced officers from excise and police.
  • The team is authorized to seek information from any government department and must file fortnightly progress reports through the Prohibition & Excise Commissioner.
