Andhra Pradesh Sets April 14 Launch for Open-Access Indigenous Quantum Computers

The Amaravati facility signals a push to test home-built quantum parts on site with open access for researchers.

Overview

  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will dedicate the Amaravati 1S and 1Q systems on April 14 with a live start of cooling for 1Q and an open-access demo of 1S.
  • Two sites at SRM University and Medha Towers form the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility, which will let students, researchers, and startups see and work with the hardware.
  • Officials say the systems use over 80% domestic components and will act as India’s first quantum hardware testbeds for validation, certification, and research.
  • Quantum devices run near absolute zero, so the facility will test cables, amplifiers, and control gear in cryogenic conditions that match real operations.
  • The hub plans include hosting an IBM 133‑qubit computer, linking more than 80 partners under the National Quantum Mission, and large-scale training with about 60,000 people trained so far and a five-year target of 4.5 million.
