Andhra Pradesh Releases Rs 90 Crore for Imams After Naidu Unveils Minority Welfare Push

The payout follows Naidu’s National Education Day vow to step up minority welfare.

  • The state issued orders on Wednesday releasing Rs 90 crore in honorarium for imams and muezzins within a day of the chief minister’s announcement.
  • The funds cover January to September 2025 and clear pending dues for April to June 2024, after Rs 45 crore was released in February for July to December 2024.
  • Naidu also promised free education up to intermediate for minority girls and Rs 1 lakh in assistance for Haj pilgrims.
  • Haj facilities are planned with new buildings in Kadapa and Vijayawada and a launch of pilgrimage operations from the Vijayawada Haj House next year.
  • The chief minister highlighted a Rs 5,434 crore Minority Welfare Board, recent hiring of 175 Urdu teachers via the DSC, Rs 100 crore for Noorbasha Corporation, protection and digitalisation of Wakf properties, and a forthcoming Rs 5,000 monthly support to mosques.
