Andhra Pradesh Orders Third-Party Audit of Every Road Crash, Sets Three-Month Speed-Control Deadline

Overspeeding accounts for roughly four-fifths of crashes, shaping a push to curb deaths.

Overview

  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed independent auditing of each reported accident to pinpoint whether faults lie with vehicles, drivers or road engineering.
  • Speed governors are mandated for all transport vehicles with consideration to extend the rule to non-transport vehicles.
  • CCTV cameras will be installed every 500 metres on national and state highways, linked to the Real Time Governance Society, with a new vehicle-tracking control room.
  • Officials were told to seize vehicles that continue to overspeed despite warnings, while 134 illegally modified all-India tourist buses have already been seized.
  • The state will rectify 680 identified black spots and add crash barriers, pedestrian facilities and road markings, as officials also reported 15,462 accidents and 6,433 deaths so far this year.
