Andhra Pradesh Issues Order to Launch Sthree Shakti Free Bus Scheme on August 15

Final preparations for ticketing software, driver recruitment and equipment upgrades are under way to support the ₹1,942 crore Sthree Shakti rollout.

  • The Transport Department on August 11 issued Government Order Ms. No. 27 formalizing the statewide launch of zero-fare travel for women and transgender residents.
  • Eligible beneficiaries are all girls, women and transgender persons with Andhra Pradesh domicile who present valid identity proof.
  • Free rides will apply to Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, City Ordinary, Metro Express and Express services, engaging 8,458 APSRTC buses (74% of the fleet).
  • Passengers will receive zero-fare tickets and APSRTC will seek reimbursement under the scheme’s estimated ₹1,942 crore annual subsidy.
  • Officials are finalizing digital ticketing systems, recruiting on-call drivers and planning safety upgrades including body-worn and CCTV cameras ahead of launch.
