Overview
- Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu chaired a detailed review meeting on Thursday to assess the status and challenges of major irrigation schemes in North Andhra.
- The government has directed engineers to compile comprehensive status reports detailing project priorities, timelines and resource requirements before the Chief Minister’s review.
- Projects funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency such as the Andhra Reservoir, Raivada, Peddankalam, Peddagedda and Vattigedda are being reassessed to identify technical and administrative bottlenecks.
- Works on the Vamsadhara Stage-II Phase-II and the Thotapalli Barrage, which were about 90% complete under the 2014–19 TDP administration, will be resumed to unlock long-stalled progress.
- Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will chair a high-level progress review next week to set firm targets and timelines for delivering irrigation and drinking water to the region.
