Andhra Pradesh High Court Reopens Tirumala Parakamani Case, Orders CID to Seize Records

The bench acted after concerns over a pared-down FIR and a Lok Adalat settlement raised fresh doubts about the handling of temple donation theft in 2023.

Overview

  • A division bench suspended the Lok Adalat order and directed the CID to seize all case files from TTD, the Lok Adalat bench, and Tirumala One Town police, with records to be placed before the court in sealed cover and the next hearing set for October 13.
  • The reopened case stems from an April 2023 incident in which clerk C. V. Ravi Kumar was caught with nearly USD 11,300 in foreign currency, while the FIR recorded only USD 900 and the matter later closed after the accused transferred properties to TTD.
  • Two TTD board members released CCTV footage from the Parakamani counting hall and questioned why the FIR amount differed from what was allegedly recovered, welcoming the High Court’s decision for a fresh probe.
  • TDP and BJP leaders allege foreign-currency misappropriation on the order of about ₹100 crore, with some citing even higher figures and claiming diversions into real estate and links to Tadepalli Palace; these assertions remain unproven and are now subject to investigation.
  • Former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy rejected the accusations, said vigilance teams under YSRCP caught the staffer, pointed to assets surrendered via Lok Adalat, and demanded a CBI probe rather than a state CID inquiry.
