Overview
- The Naidu government has opted to develop 10 of the new government medical colleges under a public–private partnership model drawn from 17 institutions sanctioned earlier by the Centre.
- YSRCP leader Seediri Appalaraju accused the administration of pursuing privatisation for kickbacks and vowed to fight the move and reverse it if his party returns to power.
- Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav wrote to opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy alleging a malicious misinformation campaign and asserting that PPP is not privatisation.
- Yadav cited poor progress under the previous regime, noting 17% financial expenditure and 25% physical completion, and pointed to 2023 NMC rules that require full infrastructure before admissions, with Paderu limited to 50 seats against a proposed 150.
- The minister argued PPP is necessary given funding gaps and said fee structures for management and NRI quota seats would remain unchanged under the scheme.
