Andhra Pradesh Hands Over 3 Lakh Homes, Sets 2029 Goal

The push leverages PMAY funding with new state top-ups targeted at marginalised communities.

Overview

  • The Chief Minister virtually launched the handover from Rayachoti, with 3,00,192 houses completed including 2,28,034 under PMAY-Urban, 65,292 under PMAY-Gramin and 6,866 under PMAY-Janman.
  • Naidu announced a target to deliver another 5.9 lakh houses by March 2026 as part of a broader aim to ensure every homeless poor person has a home by 2029.
  • The Centre’s grants stand at Rs 2.5 lakh per urban unit and Rs 2 lakh per rural unit, supplemented by state support of Rs 50,000 for BCs and SCs, Rs 75,000 for STs, Rs 1 lakh for primitive tribes and a newly announced Rs 50,000 for Muslims.
  • Officials credited a free sand policy for speeding construction, while the event also featured the distribution of energy-saving appliances and permits for beneficiaries with their own plots.
  • Naidu alleged the previous YSR Congress government cancelled 4.73 lakh houses and withheld Rs 900 crore for 2.73 lakh units, noting these are claims made by the current administration.
