Andhra Pradesh Files Cases in Mangalam Peta Forest Encroachment, Names Peddireddy Family

The action follows Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan’s aerial survey with a directive for public disclosure.

Overview

  • The Forest Department said it has registered criminal cases under the Andhra Pradesh Forest Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, naming former MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy as A1 and listing family members including former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy.
  • Officials reported that 32.63 acres allegedly merged into private holdings were fenced and cultivated, and that this area has now been reclaimed with case details submitted to court.
  • The PCCF noted 75.74 acres of notified forest as per the 1968 Gazette and cited borewells and resource extraction causing an estimated loss of ₹1.26 crore.
  • The cases follow Pawan Kalyan’s aerial survey that reported 76.74 acres of encroachment and triggered a broader probe with orders to publish names, extents, and case status on the department website.
  • Pawan Kalyan flagged discrepancies between paper records and Webland entries and pushed digitisation of land records, while Peddireddy has denied wrongdoing and cited earlier records and court outcomes.
