Andhra Pradesh Coalition Lays Foundation for Rs 1,290 Crore Prakasam Water Project

Overview

  • Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan laid the foundation stone on July 4 for the Rs 1,290 crore project under the central Jal Jeevan Mission in Narasimhapuram village.
  • The scheme will serve more than 10 lakh people across 578 villages through a treatment plant, 19 sumps, 31 balancing reservoirs, 334 tanks alongside a 5,000-kilometre pipeline network.
  • Leaders credited BJP backing paired with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s financial planning for unlocking central funds following years of underuse by the former YSRCP government.
  • They alleged the previous YSR Congress Party administration spent only Rs 4,000 crore of the Rs 26,000 crore sanctioned between 2019 and 2024 without delivering results.
  • The coalition has initiated efforts to reclaim illegally occupied temple endowment lands in Prakasam district to protect public religious assets.
