Andhra Pradesh Clears PPP Plan for 10 Medical Colleges as Naidu Vows State Control

The move seeks to finish incomplete campuses by tapping private capital under a model that keeps services public-facing.

Overview

  • The government issued orders to develop 10 of the 17 sanctioned medical colleges through a PPP model, including sites such as Adoni, Madanapalle, Markapuram, Bapatla and Pulivendula.
  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu says the state will retain ownership and oversight, with private partners primarily providing investment and the government providing land.
  • Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav says outpatient services will remain free and NTR Vaidya Seva will continue at the PPP colleges.
  • YSRCP leaders accuse the plan of amounting to privatisation and have called a state-wide ‘Chalo Medical College’ protest on 19 September.
  • Rival claims over the previous government’s progress persist, with the current administration citing ₹1,451 crore spent against an ₹8,480 crore need, Jagan Mohan Reddy asserting roughly ₹3,000 crore of work completed, and a TDP MLA alleging ₹5,500 crore was lavished without finishing the campuses.
