Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Approves ₹80,000 Crore for Vizag and Vijayawada Metros

Overview

  • The state cabinet sanctioned nearly ₹80,000 crore for the two metro systems under a 50:50 equity model supported by 30-year soft loans.
  • APMRCL has floated ₹6,250 crore of e-tenders covering 40% of Vizag Metro Phase I, a 46 km network with 42 elevated stations across three corridors.
  • In-principle approval has been granted for Vijayawada Metro Phase I, a 32.4 km, two-corridor project costing ₹10,118 crore, with tender invitations due imminently.
  • MoUs with consultancies Typsa and Shistra designate them as technical partners responsible for design, technology transfer and construction supervision.
  • Officials have pledged to deliver both metro systems within three years and project the creation of up to 150,000 jobs through these infrastructure investments.
