Andalusia Adds Gym and Rental Tax Breaks to Pet Deduction in 2026 Budget Plan

Final adoption in the 2026 budget would make the relief retroactive to 2025 expenses.

Overview

  • Pet owners would get a 30% deduction on veterinary bills capped at €100, extended to three years for adopted animals and for the lifetime of assistance dogs, with income limits of €80,000 (individual) and €100,000 (joint).
  • Sports spending would carry a 15% deduction up to €100 per taxpayer for gym, club and federation fees with no income cap, which the Junta estimates could reach about 785,000 people and cost €36 million a year.
  • Rental relief would rise to €1,200 for tenants under 35, over 65 and victims of domestic violence or terrorism, and to €1,500 for people with disabilities, subject to income thresholds of €25,000 (individual) and €30,000 (joint).
  • The government pegs the package at roughly €55 million annually, including around €12 million for the pet measure and €8 million for the enhanced rental deduction, with about 182,000 expected to claim the veterinary relief and 35,000 the rent aid.
  • Officials say expenses dated from January 1, 2025 could be claimed with proper invoices once the budget and BOJA rules are approved, as opposition parties and unions denounce the plan as electoralist and question its priorities.
