Overview

  • Palaspata lies approximately 130 miles south of Tiwanaku’s main ceremonial center on a hill long known to local farmers but never formally studied.
  • The complex spans roughly 125 by 145 meters and features 15 quadrangular enclosures surrounding a rectangular inner courtyard.
  • Its orientation aligns with the solar equinox, indicating a deliberate design for religious rituals.
  • Fragments of keru cups link the site to chicha-fueled feasts and connect three major trade corridors across the highlands, Altiplano and Cochabamba valleys.
  • Authorities have initiated preservation and tourism planning to safeguard the find and support future archaeological research and public access.
