Ancestry DNA Test Links TikToker’s Grandmother to 1997 Baby Garnet Cold Case

A Michigan grandmother faces trial after genetic genealogy identified her as the mother of a newborn found dead 27 years ago.

Jenna Rose Gerwatowski, a TikTok user, took an Ancestry DNA test that connected her family to the long-unsolved Baby Garnet case.
The case involves the 1997 death of a newborn, known as Baby Garnet, whose remains were discovered in a campground outhouse in Michigan.
DNA testing confirmed that Gerwatowski’s grandmother, Nancy Gerwatowski, was the mother of the infant, who died of asphyxiation shortly after birth.
Nancy Gerwatowski, now 61, was arrested in 2022 and charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, and concealing the death of an individual.
A court hearing in December will determine if certain evidence, including her statements and lack of prenatal care, will be admissible in her trial.
