South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) party supports a parliamentary motion to close the Israeli embassy in South Africa and suspend all diplomatic relations with Israel.
The motion was proposed by the opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on the International Criminal Court to investigate Israel for potential war crimes in Gaza.
South Africa's support for Palestinians dates back to former President Nelson Mandela's days, likening their plight to its own before the end of apartheid in 1994.
South Africa earlier this month recalled its diplomats from Israel.
