Anaheim Man Charged Over Instagram Threats Targeting Vice President Vance at Disneyland

Investigators say agents traced the Instagram threats to a 22-year-old Anaheim resident using platform records, IP data, device forensics.

Overview

  • Marco Antonio Aguayo, 22, was arrested Jan. 16 and charged with making threats against the president and successors after posts during Vice President J.D. Vance’s July 12 visit.
  • Prosecutors allege he commented on Disney’s official Instagram that pipe bombs were in the park and warned of “bloodshed” as Vance visited with his family.
  • Secret Service agents and Anaheim police located him the same day; he first denied involvement, then admitted posting the messages and surrendered his phone and computer.
  • Account records from Meta and Google, along with IP data, linked the threats to Aguayo’s email, numbers and residence, and agents found him logged into the handle cited in the complaint.
  • He faces up to five years in federal prison if convicted and is due for an initial court appearance Tuesday in Santa Ana, while officials reported no explosives found and no park disruptions.
