Overview

• Coordinación Nacional de Literatura del INBAL and the Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura selected Bergua for her “enorme riqueza y destreza narrativa” in a jury that included Tedi López Mills, Daniela Tarazona and Sara Uribe.
• The Premio Bellas Artes de Literatura Inés Arredondo commemorates short-story author Inés Arredondo and aims to elevate women’s contributions to Mexican literature with a diploma and a 300,000-peso stipend.
• Bergua called it a great honor to receive an award bearing Arredondo’s name, whom she regards as one of the literary summits of 20th-century Mexico.
• A versatile writer of novels, short stories and chronicles born in 1960 in Mexico City, she previously won the Premio de Literatura Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz in 2013 and the Premio Bellas Artes de Narrativa Colima in 2016.
• She is currently completing a new short story collection and preparing her upcoming novel, Discreción y venganza, for publication by ERA.
