  • On August 28, Amtrak will begin revenue service of its NextGen Acela with five trainsets operating between Washington, D.C., New York and Boston.
  • Each trainset will offer 27% more seats, enabling expanded weekday and weekend schedules for premium Northeast Corridor service.
  • Passengers will enjoy free high-speed 5G Wi-Fi, individual power outlets and personal reading lights at every seat.
  • NextGen Acela units reach 160 mph—10 mph faster than current models—and feature an upgraded tilt system for a smoother, quieter ride.
  • Assembled by Alstom in Hornell, New York using parts from over 180 suppliers across 29 states, the program created about 15,000 jobs and will roll out 28 trainsets by the end of 2027 under a $2.45 billion federal loan.
