AMMK Quits NDA in Tamil Nadu as Dhinakaran Sets December Timeline for New Alliances

Dhinakaran portrays the break as a response to sidelining that signals deeper cracks in the BJPAIADMK front before the 2026 Tamil Nadu polls.

Overview

  • T.T.V. Dhinakaran said AMMK is no longer part of the BJP-led alliance, declaring, “We are no longer part of the BJP-led NDA.”
  • He stated the party will decide on any new tie-ups in December after consultations with functionaries and cadres.
  • He accused the BJP and AIADMK’s Edappadi K. Palaniswami of marginalizing AMMK and said attempts to reunify AIADMK factions had failed.
  • Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has already withdrawn from the NDA, passed resolutions to that effect in Chennai, and plans a statewide tour.
  • On the day of the exit, Amit Shah met Tamil Nadu BJP leaders urging restraint on OPS and Dhinakaran, and Dhinakaran left the door open to talks with other parties, including Vijay’s TVK.
