Amit Shah Opens Gujarat Summit, Unveils Digital Push to Triple Cooperatives’ GDP Share

Shah used day one of his Gujarat visit to tie new digital tools to an expansion plan for India’s cooperative network.

Overview

  • He set goals of forming at least one cooperative in every panchayat and enrolling over 50 crore active members to reach a threefold rise from 2023 levels.
  • NABARD’s Sahakar Saathi suite was launched to place rural, district and urban cooperative banks on a unified platform with services for KYC, loan recovery and documentation, enabling future e-Kisan Credit Cards.
  • Shah said the “cooperation among cooperatives” deposits model piloted in Banaskantha and Panchmahal will be implemented nationwide after refinements.
  • He pointed to a tripling of the combined Rural Development, Agriculture and Cooperation budgets since 2014, reaching more than Rs 3.15 lakh crore in 2025–26.
  • His three-day tour also features the Swadeshotsav 2025 expo and scheduled openings on December 7 of 861 PMAY EWS homes in Thaltej and 350 slum-rehabilitation homes in Nava Vadaj.
