Amit Shah-Led Panel Clears Rs 4,645 Crore for Flood Mitigation and Recovery Across Nine States

The package channels disaster-mitigation funds with a 90:10 Centre–state cost share for urban flood works to speed projects in high-risk cities.

Overview

  • The High-Level Committee approved projects totaling Rs 4,645.6 crore for Assam, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
  • UFRMP Phase-2 will cover 11 cities with Rs 2,444.42 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund under a 90% Centre and 10% state funding model.
  • Assam will receive Rs 692.05 crore for restoration and rejuvenation of 24 wetlands across nine Brahmaputra districts with a 75:25 Centre–state share to boost flood storage and resilience.
  • A dedicated Rs 200 crore Guwahati flood-mitigation project was cleared with Rs 180 crore from the Centre for measures spanning water-body interlinking, stormwater management, nature-based erosion control and early warning systems.
  • Recovery assistance was sanctioned at Rs 1,270.788 crore for Assam and Rs 260.56 crore for Kerala, alongside recent central releases of Rs 4,412.5 crore from SDMF to 21 states and Rs 372.09 crore from NDMF to nine states.
