Amit Shah-Led Panel Clears Rs 4,645 Crore for Flood Mitigation and Reconstruction Across Nine States

The package prioritizes urban flood defences and wetland restoration through defined Centre–State cost shares under the NDMF.

Overview

  • Urban Flood Risk Management Programme Phase‑2 was approved for 11 cities with an outlay of Rs 2,444.42 crore, funded on a 90:10 Centre–State basis.
  • Assam will receive Rs 692.05 crore for restoration of 24 wetlands across the Brahmaputra system, with a 75:25 Centre–State split.
  • A dedicated Guwahati flood‑mitigation project was cleared at Rs 200 crore, including Rs 180 crore from the NDMF for nature‑based and early‑warning measures.
  • Kerala was sanctioned Rs 260.56 crore from the NDRF for Wayanad reconstruction after the 2024 landslide, far below the Rs 2,221 crore sought in the PDNA.
  • The Home Ministry also reported recent releases of Rs 4,412.50 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund to 21 states and Rs 372.09 crore from the NDMF to nine states.
