Amit Shah Launches Rs 1,816-Crore Delhi Projects to Curb Yamuna Pollution

The rollout sets a 2028–2029 timeline to cut Yamuna pollution through new sewage treatment capacity.

Overview

  • Shah inaugurated 11 works and laid foundations for eight more, launching 19 projects worth Rs 1,816 crore focused on sewage treatment, sewer expansion and water supply.
  • The package allocates about Rs 1,400 crore for eight STPs, Rs 99 crore for underground reservoirs and roughly Rs 300 crore for new sewer lines and household connections.
  • Officials said 22 major drains will be equipped with STPs, with drone and physical surveys of around 200 minor drains to stop untreated discharge into the river.
  • The Centre and the Delhi government are implementing the programme jointly, with STP upgrades and reservoirs planned across sites including Keshopur, Kondli, Rohini and Narela.
  • Leaders set public targets to finish major cleanup before the next Lok Sabha elections, while Shah also described a broader plan extending work along the river to Prayagraj.
