Amit Shah Launches Driver-Owned Bharat Taxi With Zero-Commission Model

Backed by major cooperatives, the new app begins service in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat and targets a nationwide rollout within two to three years.

Overview

  • Bharat Taxi is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, with drivers as member-owners and backing from eight national cooperatives including Amul/GCMMF, IFFCO and NAFED.
  • The platform says it is surge-free and commission-free, with Amit Shah stating drivers receive Rs 80 of every Rs 100 while some reports describe a nominal ~Rs 30 daily app access fee, and fares are paid directly into drivers’ accounts.
  • Public operations have started in Delhi-NCR and select cities in Gujarat after a pilot, with plans to expand across all states within two to three years.
  • Government and cooperative figures from the pilot cite over 3–4 lakh drivers onboarded, more than 1 lakh users, upwards of 10,000 daily rides and around Rs 10 crore already paid to drivers.
  • Driver welfare and safety measures include health and accident insurance (about Rs 5 lakh coverage), retirement savings, support centres and a women-focused ‘Sarathi Didi’ option, alongside MoUs with Delhi Metro, Delhi Police, AAI, SBI, Paytm and IFFCO-Tokio.
