Overview
- Inspiration began its nationwide tour at Derby, marking the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway’s first steam passenger service.
- Nigel Wilson and other rail enthusiasts noted the train’s low-pitched, bell-accented whistle resembled those used on North American locomotives.
- Organized by Railway 200 with the National Railway Museum and backed by Network Rail, the train will visit 60 locations to showcase Britain’s rail heritage.
- Four themed carriages — including interactive science exhibits and career-focused coaches — aim to educate visitors and inspire future railway professionals.
- Following its Derby debut, the exhibition train will stop in Norwich on August 7–10 and then Suffolk, with its 2026 schedule yet to be announced.
