'American Nightmare': True Story of 'Gone Girl' Kidnapping
Victims Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn Faced False Accusations, Later Vindicated and Awarded $2.5M Settlement
- Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn were victims of a real-life 'Gone Girl' kidnapping in 2015, where Huskins was abducted and held for ransom while Quinn was drugged and tied up.
- Initially, the Vallejo Police Department accused the couple of fabricating the incident, causing them to face public scrutiny and potential job loss.
- The actual kidnapper, Matthew Muller, a former Marine and Harvard Law-educated attorney, was caught a few months later and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
- Huskins and Quinn sued the city of Vallejo for false imprisonment, defamation, false arrest and intentional infliction of emotional distress, settling for $2.5 million in 2018.
- Today, Huskins and Quinn are married with two daughters and have co-authored a book about their experience.
