American Mountaineer and Nepali Guide Dead After Avalanches on Tibetan Mountain, Two Others Still Missing

American mountaineer Anna Gutu and Nepali guide Mingmar Sherpa confirmed dead after avalanches on Mount Shishapangma in Tibet.
Two other climbers, American Gina Marie Rzucidlo and Nepali guide Tenjen Sherpa, remain missing after the avalanches.
Another Nepali guide, Karma Geljen Sherpa, was seriously injured but is now in stable condition.
The avalanches occurred at high elevations as 52 climbers were attempting to summit Shishapangma, the 14th highest mountain in the world.
Climbing activities on Shishapangma have been suspended due to dangerous snow conditions that may be exacerbated by climate change.
