American Man Sentenced to 6 Years in Russian Prison for Attempted Abduction of Son

The U.S. citizen was detained while trying to cross the border with his son without the mother's consent amid heightened U.S.-Russia tensions.

Daniel Joseph Schneider was sentenced to six years in prison by a court in Russia's Kaliningrad region.
Schneider attempted to leave Russia with his four-year-old son, a Russian citizen, without the mother's permission in July 2023.
He was apprehended near the village of Lipovka close to the Polish border by Russian border guards.
