American Hiker Brook Cheuvront Found Dead on South Africa's Table Mountain

The 20-year-old University of North Carolina student went missing during a solo hike, prompting an extensive search operation.

Brook Cheuvront, a 20-year-old student from North Carolina, was reported missing on Saturday after her tracking app stopped updating.
Cheuvront was in Cape Town for an internship and had set off to hike Devil's Peak in Table Mountain National Park.
A search involving SANParks rangers, Wilderness Search and Rescue, and trail runners was initiated but called off late Saturday night.
Her body was discovered on Sunday afternoon with the assistance of a City of Cape Town aircraft.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, and authorities have advised hikers to avoid solo treks.
