American father leaves South Korea after live bullet found in checked baggage

  • On May 28, a single live round was detected during routine screening of an American man’s checked luggage at Gimhae International Airport.
  • The man, in his 50s, entered South Korea on April 29 to accompany his child to a K-pop audition.
  • Busan Airport police handed him over to the Gangseo Police Precinct on suspicion of violating the Act on the Safety Control of Firearms, Swords and Explosives.
  • A joint investigation by police and other authorities found no evidence of terrorism or espionage.
  • He was permitted to depart the country without charges but must undergo police questioning upon reentering in September.
