American Express Lifts Platinum Card Fee to $895, Betting on Bigger Credits

The richer rebates require activation plus targeted spending to unlock value.

Overview

  • The higher pricing took effect on September 23, 2025, with existing cardholders paying the new amount at renewals on or after January 2, 2026.
  • Amex advertises more than $3,500 in annual value, including up to $600 in hotel credits split semi-annually, up to $400 in Resy dining credits, up to $300 at Lululemon, and up to $200 toward Oura purchases.
  • The Oura benefit applies only to new device purchases and excludes the required monthly subscription, a restriction flagged by dissatisfied users.
  • The card’s earning rates remain 5x points on flights and Amex Travel bookings and 1x elsewhere, with ongoing Centurion Lounge access plus 10 complimentary Delta Sky Club visits when eligible.
  • Reception is divided as some reviewers report easily offsetting the fee through credits and lounge use while others are downgrading over usability hurdles, as Amex courts new sign-ups with a 200,000-point Business Platinum welcome offer.
