American Airlines Reaches Contract Extension with Ground Worker Unions

American Airlines and labor unions for mechanics and baggage handlers have agreed on a two-year contract extension.
The deal includes double-digit pay increases, with top-scale wages rising 12% to 15% on Jan. 1, and 18% to 26% over the term of the extension.
This agreement impacts 34,000 employees represented by the Transport Workers Union and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
The contract extension follows recent agreements with flight attendants and pilots, who received cumulative pay raises up to 36% and 40% respectively.
The new contract aims to avoid the confrontations of 2019, when American Airlines sued the unions over alleged illegal work slowdowns.
