American Airlines Names Nat Pieper Chief Commercial Officer Effective Nov. 3

The veteran oneworld chief is tasked with reviving revenue performance to close a profitability gap with Delta and United.

Overview

  • Pieper, currently CEO of the oneworld alliance, will become chief commercial officer on Nov. 3 and report to CEO Robert Isom.
  • His remit spans loyalty and co-branded credit cards, network planning, revenue management, sales and distribution, alliances and cargo.
  • He will co-lead American’s Customer Experience team with Chief Operating Officer David Seymour, while Vice Chair Steve Johnson resumes the Chief Strategy Officer role.
  • The move follows American’s 2024 removal of former CCO Vasu Raja after a business-travel strategy faltered and as the carrier’s profits trail Delta and United.
  • Pieper brings more than 25 years at Northwest, Delta and Alaska, and his recent oneworld tenure emphasized digital integration and customer-focused initiatives.
