AMD Soft-Launches FSR Redstone, Bundling ML Upscaling, Frame Generation and Ray Features

The ML features run only on RDNA4 Radeon cards, requiring driver toggles plus per‑game support.

Overview

  • FSR Redstone consolidates four components: FSR Upscaling (formerly FSR4), a new ML-based Frame Generation, Ray Regeneration, and the new Radiance Caching.
  • Upscaling and Frame Generation are rolling out across supported games now, Ray Regeneration is already shipping in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and Radiance Caching is available to developers with games expected in 2026.
  • AMD limits the ML-backed features to Radeon RX 9000‑series (RDNA4) GPUs, with users needing to enable them in AMD Software and then activate FSR 3.1 or 4 in each game.
  • Driver-level support can substitute DLLs so titles that already support FSR 3.1 or FSR4 can pick up the ML variants without manual in‑game options.
  • AMD touts large gains when all features are enabled—roughly 2.2x in God of War: Ragnarok to 4.7x in Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K on an RX 9070 XT—figures based on Performance mode and including generated frames.
