AMD Retires Wraith Prism and Spire Stock Coolers, Leaving Some Ryzen CPUs Without In-Box Cooling

Effective August 1, AMD’s packaging update shifts cooling responsibility to buyers for many older Ryzen SKUs.

Overview

  • AMD’s updated product IDs mark the Wraith Prism (SR4) and Wraith Spire (SR2a) as End of Life, with changes taking effect on August 1, 2025.
  • Select boxed Ryzen 5000 and 7000 processors will no longer include any cooler, according to AMD’s notice.
  • Certain MPK/MP units across Ryzen 8000G, 7000 and 5000 lines now list the Wraith Stealth (SR1) as the replacement cooler.
  • Affected examples cited in listings include the Ryzen 7 8700G, Ryzen 7 7700, Ryzen 9 7900 and Ryzen 5 3400G, with Japanese retailer Nojima already showing Stealth bundles.
  • The shift follows AMD’s earlier move with Ryzen 9000-series and comes as prices have not consistently dropped, prompting guidance to plan for an aftermarket cooler.
