Amber Snow Warning Hits North East England as Arctic Snap Brings Blizzard Risk

Forecasters expect hazardous travel with gusty northerlies creating whiteouts on higher ground.

  • An amber Met Office warning is in force for parts of North East England and Yorkshire until 9pm Thursday, with 15–25cm of snow possible on the North York Moors and Yorkshire Wolds.
  • Five yellow warnings for snow and ice cover wider areas of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and parts of England, with temperatures in Scotland forecast to plunge to around −12C on Friday.
  • Road disruption has been reported with vehicles stranded on the A171 near Whitby and the A169 closed between Whitby and Pickering, as authorities advise sticking to main routes.
