Overview
- Amber Heard, Brandon Flynn and Lío Mehiel have joined the ensemble cast of Spirit of the People, directed by Katina Medina Mora, for its world premiere at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
- The festival runs July 17–August 3 in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and is presented under the newly rebranded W71 banner with artistic oversight from a Creative Collective led by Jeremy O. Harris.
- Spirit of the People confronts uncomfortable truths about land and destruction and represents a creative stretch for Harris by weaving together Spanish dialogue and substantial prose.
- Heard’s stage debut marks her first acting appearance since her 2023 film work and high-profile defamation trial, arriving just weeks after she announced the birth of twins in May.
- W71’s 71st season also features revivals of Tennessee Williams plays and original pieces such as a solo musical by Ahamefule J. Oluo and a dance-theatre work by Monica Bill Barnes and Robbie Saenz de Viteri.
